Kalpitiya Peninsula, the kitesurfing capital of Sri Lanka, is dotted with numerous spots catering to all levels of experience.

1. Lagoon in front of Hiru (winter)

   The medium-sized lagoon formed in the past three years is perfect for beginners and intermediates due to its flat and shallow waters on one side. The lagoon’s stable on-shore winds and safe environment make it an ideal learning ground in the winter season.

   Season: From December to March you can launch and kite in this lagoon every day making this the most popular spot in the winter season.

2. Kalpitiya Lagoon – The Big Lagoon (summer and winter)
   

   Great for beginners and intermediates in the summer and winter seasons. It has reasonably flat and shallow water on one side and you can cross the sand bank and enjoy the waves in the ocean. This is the most famous kitesurfing lagoon in Kalpitiya and has attracted many kitesurfers over the years because of its size, strong winds, and shallow water.

   Season: During the winter and summer seasons, a free 5-minute truck ride to the Kalpitiya lagoon is available. In the winter season, you can easily downwind from the lagoon to the hotel; it takes only about 10 minutes.

    

3. Dream Spot (summer and winter)
   A short boat ride or a 1-hour downwinder from our hotel, there is a vast and shallow flat water spot called Dream Spot, and it is exactly how it sounds dreamy.

    

4. Mini Vella Island (summer)
   A short boat ride from Kalpitiya lagoon, Vella Island offers some of the best flat-water conditions in the world, making it a favorite among advanced riders looking to perfect their tricks.

    

5. Vella Island (summer and winter)
   A 45-minute boat ride from Kalpitiya, Vella Island offers some of the best flat-water conditions in the world, making it a favorite among advanced riders looking to perfect their tricks.
6. Kappalady Lagoon: This spot provides a mix of flat water and consistent winds, suitable for both learning and practicing new maneuvers. Its unique setting and quieter environment make it a preferred choice for those looking to escape the more crowded spots.
7. Donkey Point: Known for its wave conditions, Donkey Point is a summer hotspot for kitesurfers looking for a challenging ride. Stronger winds and wave setups provide the right conditions for an adrenaline-packed experience.
